My Mother will be 100 yrs old this year so she need a little help getting up and down. She is short 5'2" and I was concerned that the arms might be to high for her on a regular toilet but they turned out to be just right. I used the lowest settings for the legs and the closest of the two settings where it connects to the toilet. To attach The safety rails just remove the two bolts holding the toilet lid on, slide the new safety rail bracket between the toilet and the toilet seat, replace the original toilet lid bolts, insert one rail in the bracket then insert the other rail in the bracket, install the two bolts that attach the rails to the bracket, then thighten up all the connections. Make sure all connections are tight or the safety rails will feel loose. The rails will raise up a small amount to allow for cleaning of the floor under the feet. The safety rails have been a great help for her.

This was very easy to install. It has really helped me. Getting up is less stressful for my knees since I have gained so much weight. I would recommend this highly for those who have knee and weight problems. Working on the weight problem will help in the long run.
4.) good substitute for wall-mounted grab bar

Shipped quick and all pieces in box. Easy enough for even me to assemble it.
I was a little concerned that it wouldn't work with the new toilet seats that have those fancy "X" screws to hold the seat on (e.g., American Standard elongated toilet seat - slow close) but it works fine. What I couldn't tell from the pix at first was that the round bar that goes across the back does NOT get fastened to the toilet seat - there's a flat plate that attached to the toilet seat, the tubular piping goes into the round tunnel attached to the flat plate, and then some turn knobs are inserted into the top of the tunnel and screwed down to hold the tubular piping to the flat plate. As stated, legs lift for cleaning underneath. We put the legs in the outer-most position to allow room for the user to lean a tad from one side to another. (Therefore, it is a bit confining; think of it as using a restroom stall where the stalls are very clsoe together and doing your business in one of those stalls.)
The only other caution I can see is if someone in your family gets up in the middle of the night to use the rest room and doesn't remember that these arms are installed, they could possibly bump into them in a dark bathroom. (Considering just keeping the farthest arm installed and removing the other for easier access to the toilet but thought I'd try this first.)
Using this until I can find a competent tile expert to install grab bar next to toilet without cracking my wall tiles!

Takes some effort to install, although it is very easy to figure out. You have to unscrew your toliet seat to install. It is worth the effort and small amount of time involved. Very sturdy and adjusts easily. In combination with a seat riser, it really makes a huge difference. I purchased this with a seat riser and got a break on the shipping....that ended up being a good move.

Makes for a safe raised-seat toilet at home during surgery recovery. Would recommend highly.

Installation is simple but awkward in a small space. It was a strain to lean over the toilet so long to tighten the bolts. The legs are not as stationary as I would have liked. They move the most in the outer position. The rails are strong and the height is easy to adjust. I do like the fact that you can lift the feet off of the floor for cleaning.

The rails are 27.5" minimum height which is quite high unless you're using it with an elevated seat riser.
Measure an existing chair from the floor and see how the 27.5" height will suit you before ordering ...
It is well made and of a good quality otherwise.

21.) OK if it fits!
Reviewed by: Barry Dorfman Morro Bay, CA USA

I returned this item because the specs on the site did not match the item. The specs state arms are min 24in off the floor. In fact the min on the item turns out to be 27.5in, way too high for the short stature person the item was purchased for. The specs on the site also state a 10in range of adjustability. In fact the range is just under 5 inches. If it fit the person I think it would work fine. I do not think this was Amazon's fault. I looked on the manufacturer's site and they had the same specs. I called the manufacturer and they were surprised to learn the item did not match their published specs.
22.) Higher than described... too high for me
Reviewed by: Charlie Howard Wine Country, USA
Rating:
The description says the height range is 24" - 29". In fact, it's 28" - 32". That makes the rails uncomfortably high for me, even at the minimum 28" setting. I am not short: about 5'10"; but it's hard to get any leverage from these rails when trying to stand up.
Carex makes a set of rails that are 2 inches shorter than these, and work well for me. Should have gotten those instead of these.
Another reviewer warned about the error in the product description, but it didn't register, unfortunately.
Another difference between these and the Carex rails is the handgrip material: Medline uses hard plastic, while Carex uses firm foam rubber. The rubber is a lot more comfortable on the hands, but the plastic probably is easier to keep clean.
Both brands are very well made, very solid. Actually, except for the height and handgrips, they're virtually identical, as though they came off the same production line.
If I can find shorter rails, I'll return the Medline product.
23.) One size DOES NOT fit all.
Reviewed by: Foxboy Edina, MN

This will work fine on many standard toilets with a rectangular tank. Mine happens to be on the fancy side with a curved tank, so it would not fit between the tank and seat. I had to cut the bracket holes off and mount the back frame BEHIND the tank. No, it is not as steady, not nearly! It will work (if careful) but certainly not as safely, If you have space between seat mounts and tank it will work fine, but you will need ample room to make it work as intended. They don't really show the mounting plate, it's about 9X4 inches. Make sure you have that 4 inches. You need about 2 inches from the bolts to the back of the tank.
I guess, buy standard boring stuff for your bathroom. Don't think of design, it may not work.
24.) Nice item, but seems a little jittery?!?!
Reviewed by: JR Sunnyvale, CA

I installed this according to manufacturer recommendations and my mother likes it, but the legs seem jittery, like they can slide a little. This may frighten her if she's using the toilet in the middle of the night. I have to put some kind of rubber reinforcement on the bottom of the foot so it doesn't slide as much (there is shiny linoleum in my mother's apartment and I can't put a bath rug underneath because she uses a walker and will trip). I was pleased with the price and the ease of install, just a little freaked out by the slight wobble.
25.) Not as Sturdy as Expected
Reviewed by: CMM Southeast IL
Rating:
Although it seems to work ok so far - it wobbles considerably and our parent if a little 'wary' of it. I don't think it can fall over, but, it definitely wobbles. I think if I were to purchase another one - I would look for something with four legs. It arrived promptly and was easy to install - but, it definitely wiggles and since our parent is heavy - it makes her nervous. She makes sure she hangs onto her regular grab bar when getting up.
26.) Inconvenient height

While this item works, it is not very steady. It needs a support rail in the front also to prevent it from waving back and forth.
I would not want to depend upon this for a very elderly or unsteady person.

Medline Toilet Safety Rails
Though it was very easy to install, the arms wiggled too much, making the user feel very insecure. The company was great about refunding my money, but told me to just throw the rails away. That kind of makes me think the company is not that confident of the integrity of the product.
